Differences Between a Blog and a Website

What are the differences between a blog and a website?
A blog and a website are two different ways that one can post information on the World Wide Web.
A website is any page on the web that hosts some sort of information while a blog is a type of website.
-         The website may even be interactive or a portal for something it may promote a specific product/business.
The term “website” is very generic. Google, Yahoo, Wikipedia, Amazon, E-bay, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Microsoft.com, Samsung.com, Apple.com are all different types of websites.
Websites can be very versatile and can fulfill numerous purposes. Businesses may use websites to represent their products. Some websites may provide some digital services and allow for social integration.
A blog, on the other hand is a type of website. The term “blog” is derived from “web log” hence it safes to assume that a blog is a log of some sort of an online diary or journal. It was mainly used by people to write about their daily life, thoughts or beliefs.
A modern blog is often called a digital magazine similar to a magazine, the editor, which in the case of a blog is the same as the author, controls what is included in the blog. There is no limitation on what can be included in a blog. A blog is made up of posts. A post includes word, posts, and images videos. The posts often appear in chronological order with the newest first.
While a popular trend is a hybrid site, which is traditionally a website, but also includes a blog on the site. The blog is usually used to support the traditional website.
Both websites and blog consist of pages that are interconnected by hyperlinks called URLs. In the case of blogs, such pages are called “posts”. These posts are stacked on top of each other sorted on the basis of creation.
A website, on the other hand, houses content that is hierarchically connected. A website does not bother about the creation date of a page. It is up to the website developer to decide how to link all the pages with each other.
In terms of support and maintenance, Blogs are relatively much easier to maintain. If you create a blog on an open sources platform or a free blog service you would not need to worry about code development and maintenance.
Website code however needs to be maintained by you or the developer hired by you. This may entail extra cost.
The structure of blogs is well defined and is driven by chronology; there are numbers of free blog platform available that can be used to easily create a blog while a website is usually developed from the scratch. You will need to make choices about platform. For example windows or Linux, databases for example mySQL service, programming language example PHP, ASP, Java and then ask a developer to tailor made your website according to your requirements.
Being custom designed a website gives you more flexibility in implanting the idea that you have in mind while most of the blog platforms allow but only limited flexibility.
